Norse Blank Spartans 12-0 - Win Three Game Series

April 27, 2008

Luther tallied 12 runs on 10 hits defeating the University of Dubuque 12-0 this afternoon in Dubuque. This game was scheduled to be a nine inning contest but was called due to the 10-run rule. The victory allowed the Norse to win the three-game series 2-1.

Jeff Hiatt drove in five runs and Jake Waddle and Ben Schott drove in two runs each. Hiatt was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Schott was 2-for-4 and Waddle was 1-for-3. Alex Ross also had a big day with a 2-for-3 performance and scored three times.

Joe Nelson (3-2) went the distance on the mound, spreading five hits over seven innings. Nelson faced 26 batters, walked three and struck out three.

Box score

The win gives the Norse an Iowa Conference record of 8-9, 14-15 overall. Dubuque falls to 7-12 in the IIAC, 14-20 overall.

The Norse will host Martin Luther College on Tuesday, April 29 for a double header that will begin at 2:00 p.m.
