Luther - Loras Split Here in Decorah

Luther and Loras split this afternoon's double header here in Decorah. The Norse won game one 4-2 and the Duhawks posted a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
In game one, Luther scored its four runs on 12 hits, scoring two runs in the third and fifth innings. Loras jumped out to a 2-0 lead, after scoring a run in each of the first two innings, producing all four of their hits in these frames.
Luther starting pitcher Adam Kohls (3-1) shut the Duhawks down in the final five innings retiring 10 straight, before surrendering his only walk of the game with two outs in the fifth.
Jeff Hiatt, who was 2-for-4, tied the game with a two-run single to right field. Jake Waddle scored what proved to be the winning run in the fifth. Waddle advanced to third on a Ben Schott infield hit and then scored on a throwing error. Following a Zack Topping walk that loaded the bases, Steve Beckman drew an rbi walk that led to Luther's final run of the game.
A Luther error in the fourth inning which led to two Loras unearned runs proved to be the difference in the nightcap. Trailing 4-1 entering the sixth. Luther pulled to within one run thanks to back-to-back rbi doubles by Ben Schott and Matt Bruhn.
The split gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 6-8, 12-14 overall. The Duhawks are now 6-10 in league play, 13-18 overall. These two teams will wrap up the three game series with a nine inning game in Dubuque on Wednesday, April 30.
Up next for the Norse is a three-game series at the University of Dubuque this weekend. The first game will be a nine inning game that will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's twin bill will start at 1:00 p.m.
