Norse Split With Scots in Late Night Metrodome Clash

The Norse and Macalester College Scots squared off in a late night double header at the Minneapolis Metrodome that started at 9:45 p.m. this evening. Four and one-half hours later, each team had secured one victory, with Macalester winning game one 5-4 and Luther posting a 10-2 victory in game two.
In game one, a three-run fourth proved to be the difference for Macalester. With the game tied 2-2 entering the bottom half of this frame, the Scots strung together four hits that concluded with a two-run double to left center field.
The Norse scored once in the first and fourth and twice in the sixth. Ben Schott had two RBI and was 3-for-4 at the plate. Alex Ross was also 3-for-4 and drove in one run. Jeff Riddle, was 2-for-3 and scored twice from the lead-off slot in the batting order.
Joe Nelson, who was making his first start of the season on the mound, allowed five runs on five hits, struck out four and walked four.
In game two, the Norse exploded for 10 runs on 11 hits, scoring four runs in the third and three in both the fourth and sixth innings.
Jeff Hiatt drove in four runs that included a three-run double in the third. Jake Waddle was 3-for-4, scored three times and drove in one run. Alex Thomas also produced multiple hits with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Max Flaig was credited with the victory, throwing five full innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He faced 23 batters, struck out four and walked four.
The split gives the Norse an overall record of 4-3. The Norse will wrap up their six-game stand at the Metrodome tomorrow when they will face Carleton College at 5:00 p.m.
