Luther Sweeps Northwestern in Dome
March 24, 2008
Luther kicked off its six-game schedule at the Minneapolis Metrodome with a sweep of Northwestern College (MN). The Norse raised their record to 3-2 overall after posting wins of 3-0 and 11-3.
In game one, Adam Kohls threw a three-hit shut out. Kohls faced 24 batters, struck out 12 and did not give up a walk.
The Norse scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth. A Jake Waddle double down the right field line with the bases loaded, produced the first two runs of inning. Ben Schott followed with a single to right field that drove in the final run of the ball game. Schott was the only batter to tally multiple hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
In game two, Luther scored 13 runs on nine hits, scoring four times in the first, second and seventh innings. Jeff Hiatt drove in five runs, four of which came in the second frame, after hitting a grand slam home run. Schott, who was 1-for-4, drove in three runs. Nate Todd picked up his first win of the season, allowing one run on five hits during six solid innings of work.
The Norse will resume their six-game stand at the Metrodome on Tuesday, March 25, when they will face Macalester College at 9:45 p.m.
