Norse Sweep Storm on the Road

The Norse scored 13 runs on 16 hits, sweeping the Simpson Storm in Indianola this afternoon. The Norse defeated the Storm 6-3 in game one and 7-2 in the nightcap.
In game one, the top four of the batting order produced six of Luther's nine hits. Jake Waddle and Jeff Hiatt were both 2-for-4 and Jeff Riddle and Alex Ross were both 1-for-4. Ross and Waddle scored twice and Hiatt drove in two runs.
The Norse scored four runs in the third and one each in both the fifth and seventh innings. Simpson scored once in the fifth and twice in the seventh.
Cody Hyland (3-0) was credited with the win. Hyland allowed one run on three hits, struck out four and walked three. Adam Kohls pitched the final two innings allowing two runs on four hits.
In game two, Ross and Hiatt both tallied two hits. Ross was 2-for-2 and scored three times, while Hiatt was 2-for-4 with two RBI. The Norse blew this game open with a four-run fifth inning.
Paul Pichelmann (1-1) went the distance on the mound. He allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked four.
The two wins gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 2-3, 7-6 overall. Simpson falls to 4-4 in league play, 11-9 overall.
The Norse will return to IIAC action this weekend with a three-game series at Coe College. The weekend will begin on Friday, April 4 with a nine inning game that will begin at 3:00 p.m. The series will be wrapped up with a double header on Saturday, April 5 that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
