Luther Splits With Viterbo - Hiatt Has a Big Day

A split with Viterbo University here in Decorah this afternoon gives Luther an overall record of 9-9. Viterbo won game one 7-4 and the Norse replied with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.
Viterbo broke game one open early, scoring four runs on four hits in the top of the first. The V-Hawks added to their total with runs in the second, third and sixth innings.
Despite producing 11 hits, the Norse could only muster four runs. Jake Waddle was 3-for4 and scored once. Jeff Hiatt was 2-for-3 and designated hitter Mark Weber was 2-for-4. Jeff Riddle and Joe Thompson were both credited with an rbi.
In game two, Joe Nelson (1-1) went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs on two hits. Nelson faced 29 batters, struck out eight and walked just two.
The Norse pounded out 12 hits and jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first. They went on to add runs in the next three innings to secure the victory.
Alex Ross, Hiatt and Ben Schott all produced multiple hits. Ross was 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run, while Schott was 2-for-4. Hiatt wrapped up a big afternoon going 3-for-4 with an rbi. He completed the day 5-for-7, scored twice and drove in a run.
Luther will return to action on Sunday, April 13 when they will travel to Dundas, Minn. to play Augsburg College. This double header will begin at noon.
