Luther Splits With Gustavus in Dome

Gustavus Adolphus and Luther squared off in a non-conference double header at the Minneapolis Metrodome this evening. When the dust had settled, both teams returned home with victories. Gustavus won game one 2-1 and Luther won the nightcap 6-0.
In game one, Luther scored in the bottom of the first following doubles by Jake Waddle and Ben Schott. The Gusties responded with an unearned run in the fourth and an earned run in the fifth en route to the victory.
Waddle produced two of Luther's five hits in this contest. The Gusties tallied five hits off Norse starter Max Flaig and two off Paul Pichelmann. Flaig was credited with the loss after throwing 4 1/3 innings.
In game two, Cody Hyland went the distance on the mound and threw a no-hitter. Hyland faced 27 batters, walked four and struck out four.
Offensively the Luther bats woke up producing 11 hits. Extra base hits were produced by Jeff Hiatt, Alex Thomas, Mark Weber and Jeff Riddle. Hiatt and Thomas both were credited with doubles, while Weber drove in an RBI with a triple in the sixth. Riddle hit a two-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the second. Alex Ross also drove in two RBI with singles in the first and third innings.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 1-2. The Norse will return to the Metrodome on Monday, March 24, when they will play Northwestern (MN) at 5:00 p.m.
