Simpson Defeats Luther 66-51

Luther dropped to 0-2 in the Iowa Conference after falling to Simpson College 66-51 in Indianola. Trailing 22-28 at halftime, Luther pulled to within two (37-39) with 12 minutes left in the game, but never got any closer the rest of the way. Simpson responded with a 12-2 run in the next two minutes taking a 51-39 advantage, The Norse pulled to within nine (60-51) at the 1:33 mark, only to see Simpson close the game with a 6-0 run en route to the final tally and its largest lead of the contest.
Both teams made a total of 20 field goals, but Simpson produced 18 more free throws en route to the victory. The Storm shot 46.5% from the field and Luther connected on 28.2% of its attempts.
Austin Bildstein was the only Luther player to reach double digits, scoring a game high 16 points. Andrew Dahlheimer tallied eight points off the bench and Brad Sicoli was credited with seven.
Simpson's Tim Dunlavy and Matt Gilbert both scored 13 points. They were followed by Dave Johnson and Reid Branderhorst who added nine each. Dunlavy and Gilbert were a combined 13-of-14 from the charity stripe.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 2-4. Simpson is now 1-1 in the IIAC, 3-4 overall.
Luther travels to Iowa Wesleyan University on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
