Luther 8th at National Meet - Busche & McKay All-Americans
Nov. 17, 2007
For the second year in a row, the Luther College men's cross country team has finished in the top-10 of the NCAA Division III National Championships. This afternoon, the Norse placed 8th from the field of 32 teams, posting a team total of 357 points. St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. hosted the national championships.
Senior Matt Busche (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and junior David McKay (Iowa City, Iowa/City) led the Norse seven finishing 26th and 27th respectively, en route to earning All-American honors. This is the second time in as many years Busche has earned this award and the first for McKay. Busche crossed the finish line with a time of 25:07. McKay was one second behind at 25:08. Two-hundred and eighty runners were in this afternoon's field. National meet scoring throws out individuals who are not with a national qualifying team. Because of this, Busche scored with 20 points and McKay tallied 21.
The remainder of Head Coach Steve Pasche's team and where they finished included, senior Carson Bruns ( Loveland, Colo.) - 131/98pts - 25:59; sophomore Mike Switzer (Willmar, Minn.) - 133/99pts - 25:59; junior Trevor Ruwitch (LaFayette, Colo./Monarch) - 157/119pts - 26:07; senior Aaron Zutz (Middleton, Wis.) - 182 - 26:16; and freshman Erik Johnson (Duluth, Minn./East) - 208 - 26:26.
Luther was the highest finishing school from the Central Region. This year's Central Region champions Nebraska Wesleyan placed 14th with 417 points. St. John's University was 13th with 416 and Wartburg was 25th with 537.
