Sherden Named AFCA All-American

Luther College senior running back Tyler Sherden was named an all-American Tuesday (Dec. 11) by the American Football Coaches Association. Sherden was selected as an all-purpose honoree after leading the nation in this category with an average of 222 yards per game.
He completed the 2007 season with a single season school rushing record of 1,575 yards and also tied the single season school record with 16 touchdowns. He was credited with 199 receiving yards and 446 yards in kick-off return yardage, for a total of 2,220 all-purpose yards.
A first team all-Iowa Conference selection and D3football.com all-West Region honoree, he was also selected to play for the AFCA Division III all-star team that represent the United States and defeated the Mexican National Team in the 2007 Aztec Bowl on Dec. 8 in Chihuahua, Mexico by a score of 37-19.
His career numbers are staggering. In just 21 games as a running back and return specialist – started first 14 games at defensive back and did not return kick-offs – he rushed for 3,362 yards and 41 touchdowns. He was also credited with 1,193 kick-off return yards and 386 receiving yards, for a total of 4,941 all-purpose yards, averaging 235 yards per game. His rushing total and kick-off return yardage ranks third all-time, while his career touchdown total ranks second.
A 2003 graduate of John Marshall High School, Sherden is the son of Scott and Joleen Sherden of Rochester, Minn.
