Stavast-Sherden Receive Post Season Recognition
Dec. 19, 2007
Senior offensive guard Jon Stavast was one of four Iowa Conference football players named to the D3football.com All-America team. The 2007 squad was named in conjunction with the NCAA Division III National Championship game played in Salem, Va. on Dec. 15.
A four-time first team all-Iowa Conference selection, Stavast was the only player from the IIAC named to the first team. He helped anchor an offensive line that helped senior running back Tyler Sherden rushed for a single season school record 1,575 yards. Stavast is also the only player in Luther history to be named a first team all-Iowa Conference selection four times. This honor comes on the heels of a second consecutive selection to the D3football.com All-West Region team.
Sherden, who was already named to the National Football Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America team as an all-purpose back, was an honorable mention selection at this same position by D3football.com. He has also been recognized as a third team selection on the Associated Press (AP) Little All-America team. The AP Little All-America team honors players from Division II, III and the NAIA.
Sherden led the IIAC in rushing with 1,238 yards for an average of 154.8 yards per game. His rushing total of 1,575 yards ranked sixth in the nation and he led the nation in all-purpose yards with an average of 220 yards per game.
