Big Plays Cost Norse in Pella - Sherden Scores Four Touchdosn

Central College quarterback Tim Connell threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns, as he led the Dutch to a 44-36 victory over Luther this afternoon in Pella. Connell connected on touchdown strikes of 12, 27, 19, and 84 yards. Central also scored a touchdown on a 45-yard punt return late in the fourth quarter gave the Dutch a 44-28 lead with 3:09 left on the clock.

Tyler Sherden had another big day as he rushed for 205 yards on 40 carries and reached the end zone four times. Quarterback Justin Feldt was 16-for-23 for 140 yards and one touchdown. Feldt found Tony Brantner on a 23-yard strike with 1:34 remaining, in what proved to be the final points of the afternoon.

Luther controlled the clock as it posted a possession time of 32:50 compared to Central's 27:10. The Norse also recorded 407 yards in total offense while Central was credited with 391. The Dutch, who entered the game ranked #8 in the NCAA III, were held to just 91 yards on the ground.

Brandt Rost and Marcus Hendrickson led the Norse defenders with 11 and 10 tackles respectively. Rost also picked off a Tim Connell pass early in the second quarter and returned it 35 yards, that set up Sherden's second touchdown of the game. Sherden's score followed by a Tyler Pease extra-point, gave Luther a short lived 15-10 lead.

Next Saturday will be Luther's home opener. The Norse (0-2, 0-1) will host #18 Wartburg College (2-0, 1-0) at 1:00 p.m. The Knights rolled Buena Vista this afternoon 38-0.
