First Round of IIAC Tournament Shortened to Nine Holes

April 25, 2008

Mother nature forced the first round of the Iowa Conference Championships to be shortened to nine holes this afternoon. Heavy rains delayed the start of the tournament on the par 72 Finkbine Golf Course on the campus of the University of Iowa by two hours. With almost all of the field off the first tee, a second batch of weather that brought lightning, forced the field to return to the club house for nearly three hours before play could resume. Behind the second storm came cold and windy conditions that added to the misery of the afternoon.

With nine holes complete, Central College sits atop the leader board after posting a 151. The next six teams are within three shots of each other. Buena Vista is 10 strokes behind the Dutch at 161. Loras is third at 162, followed by Luther and Coe at 163, and Simpson and Wartburg at 164.

Individually, Tom Lantzy (37) and Paul Soener (39) are tied for second and fourth respectively. Alec Schumacher (43) is tied for 28th, while Chase Forkenbrock (44) and Ross Jacobucci (44) are tied for 33rd.

First round results

The result of today's weather has forced this year's tournament to become a 63-hole battle. The teams will return to Finkbine to play a full 18-holes tomorrow with tee times slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. Next weekend, the tournament will move to Oneota Golf and Country Club in Decorah for the final 36-holes of play.
