Norse Defeat Vikings 2-0 - Classic Soccer Tournament Ends in Three-Way Tie for First

For the first time since Luther has hosted the Classic Soccer Tournament, all three teams finished in a tie for first place. All three teams defeated each other by identical scores. Luther secured its share of the tournament title posting a 2-0 victory over Augustana (IL) this afternoon.
John Schroeher scored what proved to be the game winner 21 minutes into the game unassisted on a direct kick. Nic Barclay scored an insurance goal off a pass from Joe McAndrew at 82:15. Barclay's goal also gave the Norse a total of nine points for the tournament and allowed the Norse to finish in the three-way tie. Ben Parman posted his first shutout of the season turning away two shots on goal.
All-tournament honors were presented to Schroeher, Barclay, David Keller and James Laroque.
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 2-2-1. The Norse return to action on Sept. 13, when they will host Bethel University at 7:00 p.m.
