Luther Defeats Simpson 4-0 - Advances to Semifinals of IIAC Tournament
Oct. 30, 2007
It took 56 minutes before Luther produced its first goal, but once Alex Case scored what proved to be the game winner, the Norse scored quickly and often.
Case, who ended the night with four points off the bench, scored the game winner at 56:34 assisted by Adam Pyzdrowski and John Schroeher. Three minutes later, Kyle Nelson scored his eighth goal of the year assisted by Case and goalkeeper Leif Madsen. Madsen booted the ball well over the midfield stripe and Case flicked the ball over the top of the Simpson defenders to Nelson who broke free for a one-on-one with the Storm keeper. Pyzdrowski gave the Norse a 3-0 lead at 74:04 assisted by Case and James Laroque completed the night's scoring with a goal at 78:16 assisted by Jason Olsgard.
Madsen recorded his sixth shutout of the season turning away three shots on goal in the first frame and one in the second.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 9-9-2 and snapped a three-match losing streak. Simpson ended its season with a mark of 3-14-1. The victory also gives Luther an all-time IIAC Tournament record of 18-5-1.
The Norse advance to the IIAC Tournament semifinals and will face the #1 seed Loras College on Friday, Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m. This will be a rematch of a contest that took place here in Decorah on Oct. 27, with Loras posting a 1-0 victory after scoring with just 18 seconds left in the match.
