Norse Cruise to Title of St. Mary's Invitational

Luther captured the team championship of the St. Mary's Invitational in dominating fashion. The Norse combined for 13 first place finishes and also captured the top three spots in five events en route to a team total of 1,012 points. Carleton College was second with 858, while host St. Mary's tallied 343. The Norse swept the 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and the 1,000 freestyle events.
Cameron Webb returned home with three first place finishes and two pool records. He placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.51), 100 freestyle (47.45) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.29) and established pool records in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
Bryan Perrott and Alex Eganhouse also brought home multiple first place finishes. Perrott won both the 100 backstroke (54.41) and 200 backstroke (1:58.54), establishing a pool record in the 200 backstroke. Eganhouse won the one-meter (238.30) and three-meter (270.45) diving events.
First place finishes were also posted by Joe Coffield in the 1,000 freestyle (10:26.69); Spencer Robbins in the 100 butterfly (54.27); Andrew Bross in the 200 butterfly (2:01.00); and Taylor Nelson in the 50 freestyle (22.29).
Two relay teams also placed first and established pool records in the process. The 200 medley foursome of Perrott, Michael Pettengill, Eric Crawford and Ben Skutnik won this event with a time of 1:38.40.
Webb, Nelson, Crawford and Skutnik capped off the meet with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay clocked at 1:27.41.
The Norse will return to action Jan. 18-19, when they will travel to the Grinnell Invitational.
