Norse Claim 28th IIAC Championship

The men's tennis team won its second consecutive Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s tennis championship with a 5-1 win over Coe College in the title match at the Westfield Tennis Club in Cedar Rapids last night. Luther's title is a conference record 28th league championship.
Luther, who claimed the top seed of the tournament after posting a perfect 8-0 record against IIAC opponents during the regular season, improved to 29-9 on the season. The Norse advanced to the title match with a semifinal win over Cornell College (5-0).
Last night's title match marked the sixth time in seven years that Luther and Coe have met in the final match. After taking two of three doubles matches from Coe, the Norse received straight set wins at #1 singles by Max Busch (6-1, 6-2), #3 Harrison Whiteley (6-0, 7-5) and at #6 Thomas Orser (6-4, 6-2), singles to clinch the win at 5-1.
With the win, Luther earns the Iowa Conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA III Tournament which begins May 2 at eight regional sites nationwide. The Norse will be making their second consecutive appearance in the national tournament and third in school history.
The IIAC men’s tennis championship continues Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, with the Individual Flighted Tournament beginning with singles matches at 8:30 a.m. at Coe College - Flight A - and Veterans Park - Flights B and C. Any schedule changes necessitated by weather will be posted on the Iowa Conference web site once they become available.
