Luther 3-1 For the Weekend - Post 20-Plus Win Season for Third Time in Four Years

The men's tennis team played four games this past weekend posting a record of 3-1. Luther's only loss was an 8-1 decision to nationally ranked #5 Gustavus Adolphus.
The Norse kicked-off the weekend with a 7-2 victory over Macalester in Lakeville, Minn. The Norse won two of three doubles matches and five of six singles.
The next day, a split squad defeated the University of Dubuque at home 8-1, and defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 8-1 following the loss to Gustavus in St. Peter, Minn.
At home, Dubuque picked up its only win of the match at #2 singles. Straight set victories were posted by #1 Mark Mateski, #4 Jacob Reitz, #5 Alex Spilde and #6 Cole Henry. #3 Derek Hoffman posted a hard fought three set victory.
Tim Eisele recorded the only victory for the Norse in the Gustavus match at #5 singles. Eisele defeated Ben Tomasek in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 10-4).
Luther won five singles matches in straight sets and breezed through the doubles play en route to the victory over Minnesota State-Mankato. Straight set victories were tallied by #1 Utsab Rijal, #2 Thomas Orser, #3 Samriddh Burman, #5 Reid Mason and #6 Matt Olson.
The 3-1 record during the two days of competition increased Luther's overall record to 23-9. This marks the third time in four years the Norse have posted 20-plus wins during the regular season.
The Norse will wrap up the regular season schedule this week with matches at Grinnell and Central on Friday, April 18, and at home with Dordt and Northwestern (MN) on Saturday, April 19.
