Norse Begin Season With Two Victories

The Norse tennis team began the 2008 campaign with road victories over St. John's University and St. Cloud State University. Head Coach Brian Huinker split his squad and posted 6-3 wins over both teams in St. Cloud, Minn.
In the St. John's match, The Norse posted five wins in singles play and one in doubles. Utsab Rijal won at #1 singles 6-1, 6-0 and teamed with Brad Nelson at #1 doubles for an 8-3 victory. Also posting singles victories were Nelson at #2 (6-4, 6-1), Reid Mason at #3 (6-2, 6-3), Matt Olson at #4 (5-7, 6-1, 10-6) and Alex Spilde at #6 (7-5, 7-6(7-2)).
Luther secured the victory in the St. Cloud match posting two victories in doubles play and four in singles action. The #2 doubles duo of Tim Eisele and Harrison Whiteley posted an 8-5 victory. Samirddh Burman and Jared Wiklund won at #3 doubles 8-6.
Whiteley and Eisele also posted victories at #3 (6-4, 6-0) and #4 (6-2, 6-1) singles respectively. Jared Wiklund and Burman played at #5 (6-2, 6-1) and #6 (6-1, 6-2) and also won in straight sets.
The Norse will return to action on Friday, Feb. 15, when they will play nationally ranked Carleton College at the Rochester Athletic Club at 8:00 p.m.
