Luther wraps up regular season with regional win over grinnell

The men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a 5-4 victory over Grinnell College this afternoon in Rochester, Minn. This match was moved to the Rochester Tennis Connection and played indoors because of rain in the Decorah. The victory gives the Norse an overall record of 34-5.

Grinnell entered this match ranked #8 in the Central Region, while Luther was one slot behind at #9. The Norse took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and split with the Pioneers in singles action securing the victory.

In doubles play, Thomas Orser and Ustab Rijal at #2 posted an 8-4 decision, while Scott Martin and Max Piepkorn were victorious at #3 8-3.

Straight set singles victories were posted by Orser at #4, Mark Mateski at #5 and Sammridh Burman at #6.

The Iowa Conference team and individual tournament will take place May 1-3 and will be hosted by the University of Dubuque in Cedar Rapids at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Center. The team championship will be decided on May 1, with the winner earning the automatic bid to the NCAA III National Tournament. The individual singles and doubles tournaments will take place May 2-3. The seeds and tournament schedule will be released early next week. The Norse will be looking to capture a third consecutive team title and 29th in school history.
