Luther Wraps Up Weekend Trip Through Indiana Splits With Hope and DePauw

Luther wrapped up its three-match swing through Indiana with two matches at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., this afternoon. Yesterday, the Norse defeated #19 Wabash College 9-0 and today squared off with two more ranked teams in the Central Region.
In the opener, the Norse defeated #20 Hope College (MI) 5-4. Hope started the match capturing two of three doubles matches. Luther's lone victory in this format was at #2 where Mark Mateski and Scott Sundstrom posted an 8-3 win.
In singles action, Harrison Whiteley at #2, Mateski at #4, Aaron Gendron at #5 and Samriddh Burman at #6 all posted victories. Whiteley won a three-set match over John Gardner 6-4, 4-6 10-8. Mateski, Gendron and Burman all recorded straight set wins.
After defeating Wabash and Hope, the Norse faced their most difficult challenge to-date in the final match of the weekend. DePauw University, ranked #20 in the nation and #4 in the region, lived up to its billing, defeating Luther 8-1.
Sundstrom was the only Luther player to secure a win defeating Bryan Heck in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 at #2 singles.
The loss was only the third of the season for the Norse against 14 wins. Luther entered the weekend ranked #11 in the Central Region.
The next action for the Norse will be Mar. 21-28 when they will take their annual spring trip to Orlando, Fla.
