Luther advances to second round of ncaa tournament

Luther made quick work of Concordia University (WI) in the first round of the NCAA III National Tournament, defeating the Falcons 5-0. The Norse swept double play and secured the all important fifth point when Mark Mateski and Max Piepkorn posted straight set victories at #4 and #6 singles respectively.

The Norse advance to the second round and will face University of Texas-Tyler tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Texas Tyler (19-6) is ranked 16th in the nation and featured Dustin Phillips and Robert Sajovich who are ranked #3 and #11 in the West Region. Phillips is also ranked third in doubles with David Ashlock.

Gustavus Adolphus (25-8) will face UW-Whitewater (22-8) in the other second round match, with the winners playing each other on Sunday at noon for the opportunity to reach the quarterfinals of the national tournament bracket.
