Luther sets school record for wins - Defeats St. Scholastica and Carleton

Luther set a school record for wins in a single season after posting two victories in Northfield, Minn. and two in Decorah. The Norse defeated both Dordt College and Northwestern College (MN) 9-0 in Decorah and also defeated St. Scholastica by this same score in Northfield. The final match of the afternoon saw Luther defeat Carleton 7-2. The four victories gives the Norse an overall record of 32-5. The old single season record was 30-10 set last season.
Luther cruised to the 9-0 victory over St. Scholastica winning all six singles matches in straight sets. The Norse started the match with three victories in doubles play, dropping just 11 games.
The final match of the day had two regionally ranked teams facing each other. Luther, ranked #9 in the Central Region, was trailing #13 Carleton 2-1 after doubles action. Utsab Rijal and Thomas Orser posted the only victory at #2, 8-3 over Ben Guzick and Jon Aranda.
The Norse responded with two three-set victories and four straight set victories in singles play. Scott Sundstrom, ranked #15 in the Central Region, battled back to win in three sets, after dropping the first set 0-6. Rijal also won in three sets at #4. Harrison Whiteley, Max Busch, Orser and Mark Mateski all posted straight set victories.
The Norse will wrap up the regular season at home on Saturday, April 25. The Norse will play UW-Eau Claire at 9:00 a.m. and Grinnell College at Noon.
