Day One Complete of IIAC Indoor Championships - Rolland Crowned Champion

After the first day of competition of the Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Luther women are in second place and the men are in seventh. Luther College is hosting the 2008 indoor championships.
Wartburg leads the women's field with 75 points, followed by the Norse with 43 and Simpson College third at 32.3.
Ashton Rolland claimed the conference championship in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-0 1/4 inches. This marks the second year in a row Rolland has earned all-conference honors in this event and the first time she has been crowned the league champion. Rolland finished six inches ahead of her nearest competitor, Melanie Anderson of Wartburg who finished second at 8-6 1/4.
Ericka Sell earned all-conference honors with a second place finish in the 5,000 meter run. Sell posted a time of 18:10.9.
Also earning all-conference honors by finishing in the top three, was the distance medley relay team of Flannery Cerbin, Sarah Lundine, Julia Schiefelbein and Katie Dolan. This foursome placed second with a time of 12:27.20. Wartburg won the race with a time of 12:05.11.
The men's distance medley relay team also garnered all-conference honors. The foursome of Brett Wilson, Mike Tangen, Daniel Summerfield and Aaron Zutz placed third, clocked at 10:24.95.
The Luther men tallied 14 points after the first day of competition. Wartburg is in first place with 45 points, followed by Coe with 32 and Simpson with 26.
Competition will resume tomorrow, beginning with field events at 9:00 a.m. Running events will begin at noon.
