Luther Finishes Sixth at IIAC Championships - Bruns Captures Steeplechase Title

Senior Carson Bruns (Loveland, Colo.) captured Luther's only individual title at the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Norse finished sixth in the overall point total with 67.50 points. Wartburg College, that hosted the two-day season finale May 9-10, won the team title with 186 points. Central College was a distant second at 136.50 followed by Loras at 114.0.
Bruns produced an outstanding performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase en route to his first IIAC individual title. Bruns won the event with a time of 9:29.73, finishing ahead of Teddy Clark of Central College, who was clocked at 9:35.37.
Junior Josh Blessing (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Nekoosa) claimed his second career all-conference award thanks to a second place finish in the pole vault. Blessing cleared the bar at 13-11 1/4. Kyle Calvert of Loras College won the event with a height of 14-11.
The 4 x 400 relay team of seniors Anthony Walls (Tiffin, Iowa/Clear Creek Amana) and Lucas Reidenbach (Hudson, Wis.), sophomore Tom Blattner (Oakdale, Minn./North), and freshman Alex Rustad (Decorah, Iowa), also claimed all-conference honors. This foursome finished third with a season best time of 3:20.48.
Blattner and Reidenbach also reached the finals of the 800 meter run and 400 meter hurdles respectively. Blattner finished sixth with a time of 1:55.95, while Reidenbach was fourth clocked at 54.94.
Senior Tyler Sherden (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) had also qualified for the finals of the 400 meter dash, but did not compete in the finals due to a hamstring injury.
