Nine Luther Track Athletes Named to All-Academic Team

Nine members of the Luther College track and field team have been named to the U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team.
Criteria for receiving this prestigious award includes; a student-athlete must have compiled a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater for the most recent grading period; the student-athlete must have met the NCAA Division III automatic or provisional qualifying standards for the 2007 indoor or outdoor championships; the nominating coach must be a member of the USTFCCCA.
Five members of the men’s team and four members of the women’s team earned this honor. The men’s honorees were seniors Matt Busche (Wauwatosa, Wis.), Ryan Potter (Buffalo Center, Iowa/North Iowa), Tyler Sherden (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) and Zach Tucker (Klamath Falls, Ore./Klamath Union), and junior Mike Tangen (Decorah, Iowa). The women’s honorees were senior Emily Pankow (Palatine, Ill.), junior Jess Jewell (Decorah, Iowa), and sophomores Elise Bennett (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) and Rachel Wobeter (Toledo, Iowa/South Tama).
Both the men’s and women’s teams also received All-Academic Team honors. To earn this award, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institutions NCAA squad list must be 3.00 or higher. The women’s team had a GPA of 3.442 that ranked 15th in Division III. The men’s team had a GPA of 3.154 that ranked 20th in Division III.
Jeff Wettach who will begin his 22nd season this year coaches both the men and women.
