Blessing - McKay earn all-conference honors

Josh Blessing and David McKay earned all-conference honors during the first day of competition at the Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships that are being hosted by Central College May 8-9.

Blessing became only the second pole vaulter in Luther history to earn all-conference honors in this event four times. Blessing placed second with a mark of 14-6 3/4. Chris Buresh of Loras won the league title at 15-6 1/2. Dave Bruemmer earned all-conference honors in the pole vault from 1982-85, claiming the league title his senior year.

McKay earned his second all-conference honor in the 10,000 meter run. McKay placed second with a time of 32:03.89. Brian Chenoweth of Wartburg won the race with a time of 31:50.88. McKay was also all-conference in this event in 2006.

Two Norse competitors also qualified for Saturday's finals in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles. Chris Harbaugh advanced to the 110 hurdles final with the eighth fastest time of the afternoon of 15.70. Ryan Egan posted the eighth fastest time in the 400 hurdles clocked at 57.35.

The final day of competition will begin with the field events at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. The running events will begin with the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 1:00 p.m.
