Garrett Kurth Elected to NCAA III Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Garrett Kurth, a 2003 graduate of Luther College, will be inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Wrestling Coaches’ Association’s Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will take place prior to the NCAA III National Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, March 7-8. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held Thursday, March 6, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Kurth joined the Norse wrestling program after graduating from Waukon High School in 1998, He completed his Luther career as one of the most decorated wrestlers in Luther history. He is the only Luther wrestler to reach an NCAA III national title bout three times. One year after recovering from a knee injury suffered early in his sophomore season, Kurth returned to the mat and claimed the 2001 national championship at 149 in his home state, at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa.
The next two years he was the national runner-up at this same weight class. He posted a career record of 114-35 that ranked fourth on Luther’s all-time wins list at the conclusion of his senior year. A business and math major, Kurth was also named a NWCA Academic All-American.
Kurth will become the third Luther wrestler to be inducted into the NWCA Division III Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame. He will join Jeff Bouslog ’81 who was inducted in 1993, and Dan Boos ’80 who was inducted in 2001. Paul Solberg '61 was inducted as a coach in 2005, following an outstanding record leading the Norse for 16 years.
