Seven Norse Place at Matman Invite

Seven members of the Luther wrestling team placed at the two-day Matman Invitational hosted by Cornell College Jan. 4-5.
Jason Pyle (149) and Nic Barclay (184) led the team with second place finishes. Pyle, seeded #2 for the tournament, lost to the #1 seed Aaron Cook of Buena Vista University in the title bout 7-6. En route to the championship match, Pyle posted four wins that included two falls, increasing his overall record to 14-2.
Barclay was seeded #3 and lost to the #1 seed Greg Lalla of Coe 4-3 in the title bout. Barclay posted three wins, two by fall, while advancing to the title bout.
Zac Elliott (125) and John Miller (285) both placed fourth, while Josh Prichard (141) and Dustin Balsley (157) both placed sixth. Allyn Plattner (285) placed fifth after dropping a 6-1 decision to Miller in the semifinals of the consolation bracket.

Luther placed fifth of 13 teams, posting a point total of 72.5. Coe College won the team title with 164.5 points, followed by Buena Vista University with 129.5.
The Norse will return to action Jan 12-13 when they will travel to the University of Northern Iowa for the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals.
