Bonander Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII At-Large Team

Alec Bonander, a 2005 graduate of West Lyon High School, has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII At-Large Team as a first-team selection. All first-team selections from eight regions move on to the Academic All-America ballot. The voting period for the national ballot begins Wednesday, May 28. This is the second time in as many years he has been so honored.

The at-large team consists of men’s fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, water polo and wrestling.

This is an annual award sponsored by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This award is presented to student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the field of competition. They must maintain a grade point average of 3.20 or greater and be a major contributor to their softball team. Sports information directors nominate and vote on the athletes selected. Forty-four Luther student-athletes have earned Academic All-America honors.

Bonander completed his senior year with a record of 18-4 increasing his career total to 97-25 and a two-time All-American. He also made his fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships.

Bonander is a management major who has accumulated a grade point average of 3.82. He is the son of Rod and Lannie Bonander of Larchwood, Iowa.
