Plattner Crowned Champion at Matman Invite

Allyn Plattner (Sabetha, Kan.) claimed the title of the Matman Invitational at 285 this past weekend after posting an impressive 12-0 major decision over Jason Laplante of UW-Oshkosh in the championship match.
Plattner, ranked #5 in the nation, advanced to the title bout with an 8-2 decision over Derek Toney of Buena Vista University, a fall at 4:44 over Colton Harms of Waldorf College, and a fall at 3:36 over Jared Carder of Coe in the semifinals. Following his 4-0 effort during the two days of competition hosted by Cornell College, Plattner increased his season record to 12-6.
Jason Pyle (Morrill, Kan./Sabetha), Zach Elliott (Prairie du Chein, Wis./Prairie), Kevin Bokoski (Minooka, Ill./Minooka Community) and Lance Serbousek (Louisburg, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) also placed.
Pyle finished second at 149 losing to defending national champion Jacob Naig of Wartburg by fall at 3:35. Pyle posted falls at 6:02 and 5:28 to reach the semifinals where he defeated Zach Wilson of Cornell 14-7 to advance to the title bout. Pyle is now 13-7 for the year.
Elliott tallied a mark of 6-1 en route to a third place finish at 125. He defeated David Coop of Lakeland 13-7 in the third place match. He was eliminated from the championship bracket in the quarterfinals by Alex Helmich of Wartburg 10-4. Prior to that match he recorded falls at 6:11 over Cole Mason of Cornell and Ben Seglin of Waldorf at 2:33. He is now 8-5 for the year.
Bokoski placed third at 141 posting a record of 4-1 increasing his season total to 7-3. He was eliminated from the championship bracket by Drew Smith of Morningside by fall at 3:40. He defeated Dustin Howa of William Penn University 8-5 in the third place match.
Serbousek finished fourth at 165 after dropping a 3-1 decision to Kody Koster of Buena Vista University in the third place match. Serbousek was eliminated from the championship bracket in the semifinals by eventual tournament champion and top ranked wrestler in the country, Justin Hanson of Wartburg by fall at 4:11.

The Norse will return to action Jan. 10-11, when they will participate in the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
Sixteen teams from the state of Iowa will compete, including UNI (I), Iowa (I), Iowa State (I), Upper Iowa (II), Buena Vista (III), Coe (III), Cornell (III), Dubuque (III), Luther (III), Wartburg (III), Briar Cliff (NAIA), Morningside (NAIA), Northwestern (NAIA), Ellsworth (NJCAA), Iowa Central (NJCAA) and North Iowa Area (NJCAA).
