Jan. 2, 2008
Luther College Head Coach of Women’s Basketball, Jane Hildebrand, recorded her 400th career victory when the Norse defeated Blackburn College (IL) 61-45 on Dec. 28, in the first round of the Clarke College Holiday Basketball Tournament.
Coach Hildebrand, who is in the midst of her 24th season, is now the 24th coach in NCAA III history to reach the 400-win milestone. She entered the 2007-08 campaign ranked 25th among Division III winningest coaches all-time and thanks to an 87-67 victory over Clarke College one day later in the tournament, she is tied for 23rd with a career mark 401-207.
During her tenure at Luther, she has led the Norse to seven Iowa Conference championships, and nine NCAA III National Tournament appearances. Her national tournament teams have reached the round of eight and 16 twice and finished third in 1992. Last year, after leading her squad to the national tournament round of 16, she was named the Russell Athletic/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Region 8 Coach of the Year for the first time of her career.
The all-time winningest women’s head coach in Iowa Conference history, she has been named the Iowa Conference Coach of the Year five times, coached 31 all-conference performers, including three league MVPs and eight All-Americans. Since the 1986-87 season, her third year at the helm, Luther has not posted a losing record, a string of 21-consecutive years.
