Norse Defeat Kohawks in Cedar Rapids - Post Second Win in a Row

Leading by as many as 20 points early in the second half, Luther fought off a determined Coe team that tied the game 57-57 with 1:59 remaining, and secured a 64-58 victory. Free throws by Camille Stenhaug, Jill Eicher and Ashley TeKippe down the stretch allowed the Norse to post their fourth win in conference play and second in a row. Luther led 38-31 at intermission but was outscored 37-26 in the second frame. Coe made its run during a stretch when the Norse did not score for over seven minutes.
The Norse shot 47.4 percent from the field and were an impressive 22-of-28 from the free throw line. Luther also won the battle of the glass, outrebounding the Kohawks 33-26.
The Norse defense held Coe to 38% from the field that included a 22.8% effort from behind the three-point line. The Kohawks also shot 61% from the charity stripe.
Stenhaug led the Luther offensive attack with 19 points. TeKippe and Eicher both chipped in 11. TeKippe led the squad with six rebounds and was followed by Danielle Dunnwald with five and Amanda Dahlseng with four.
Coe was led by Brittany Norris who poured in a game high 25 points. Lisa Thornburg and Shannon Nelson were next in scoring with nine and eight points respectively.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference mark of 4-2 and levels its overall record to 7-7. Coe falls to 3-3 in the IIAC, 10-5 overall.
Luther will continue its portion of the IIAC schedule that has the Norse playing five games in 10 days. The Norse travel to Wartburg College on Monday, Jan. 21, for a game that will begin at 6:00 p.m. This game can only be heard by audio web cast on the KWLC 1240 AM web site at http://kwlc.luther.edu/sports.
Following the Wartburg contest, Luther returns home for games with Loras on Jan. 23 and Coe on Jan. 26.
