Norse Fall to Duhawks - Four Game Win Streak Snapped
Feb. 16, 2008
Luther had its four-game win streak come to an end in Dubuque this afternoon, losing to Loras 68-63. Luther held a slim one point lead at halftime (31-30) but was outscored 15-6 in the first eight minutes of the second half and trailed 45-37. The Norse fought back to tied the score 56-56, thanks to a bucket by Danielle Dunnwald, off an offensive rebound at the 3:29 mark. Loras' Lindsay Bava knocked down her second three-point basket of the game the very next trip down the floor, and Loras never trailed the rest of the way.
Bava led all scorers with 29 points. She was 10-of-12 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Natalie Pucci also reached double digits for the Duhawks providing 19.
Luther was once again led by Ashley TeKippe who tallied 22 points. Camille Stenhaug and Danielle Dunnwald also reached double figures with 14 and 11 points respectively.
Both teams shot 45% from the field, but Loras made four more shots from the charity stripe. Luther won the battle of the boards out rebounding Loras 39-28. The Norse also hurt themselves by turning the ball over 24 times.
The loss dropped Luther (10-4, 13-9) into a two-way tie for second place with Coe College (11-4, 18-6). With just two more dates remaining on the regular season schedule, the Norse can not afford to lose another game, if they want an opportunity to secure the all important #2 seed and a first round bye for the six-team Iowa Conference post season tournament.
Both of these games will be at home starting with Wartburg on Wednesday night and finishing with Central on Saturday afternoon. The Wartburg game will begin at 6 p.m., while the Central contest will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. Both games will be video streamed as well as audio streamed.
