Norse Sweep Knights - Secure #2 Seed for IIAC Tournament

The combination of a 53-33 victory over Wartburg here in the Regents Center, plus #11 Simpson defeating Coe 86-79 in Cedar Rapids, allowed the Norse to secured the #2 seed for the Iowa Conference six-team tournament. The win also gave the Norse a sweep of the season series and increased its consecutive win streak over the Knights to eight.
The Norse played outstanding defense, holding the Knights to just 24.4% from the field. This total included holding Wartburg to just seven points in the first half. The Knights shot 6.3% (1-16) in the first stanza and were out rebounded 21-8.
In the final 20 minutes of action, the Norse led by as many 15 (31-16) at the midway point. Wartburg produced six straight points to pull to within nine (31-22), only to see Luther exploded on a 22-11 run in the final eight minutes of action.
Ashley TeKippe led all scorers with 23 points. Danielle Dunnwald was one-point shy of double figures with nine, followed by Amanda Dahlseng with seven. TeKippe led the squad with nine rebounds and Dunnwald grabbed six.
Wartburg's leading scorer was Abbey Hempen who scored all of her nine points in the second half. Samantha Harrington, Elizabeth Campbell and Jamie Frantz were all credited with six.
The win gives Luther and Iowa Conference mark of 11-4, 14-9 overall. The loss knocks Wartburg out of the IIAC Tournament and lowers its league record to 5-10, 12-11 overall.
Luther will complete the regular season schedule on Saturday here in the Regents Center. The Norse will host Central College at 2:00 p.m.
