Three Norse Named to All-Academic Cross Country Team - Luther Team Also Honored
Mar. 8, 2007
Three Luther College cross county runners have been named to the 2007 Division III All-Academic Women’s Cross Country Team by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). A total of 203 student-athletes received Division III All-Academic honors, up 15 from last year's total in 2006.
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and must have finish in the top 25 percent of all competitors at an NCAA regional championship.
Luther’s three individuals were juniors Flannery Cerbin (La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Rachel Wobeter (Toledo, Iowa/South Tama), as well as freshman Ericka Sell (Duluth, Minn./East).
Luther was also honored as a team and was one of 141 schools in Division III to receive the 2007 All-Academic Team award.
For a team to be considered for this award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA regional meet. The team’s entire roster must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.10 or greater. Luther’s team GPA was a combined 3.54, that ranked tied for 16th of the 141 programs.
Under third-year associate head coach Yarrow Pasche, Luther captured an Iowa Conference record 11th league title and second in as many years. The Norse went on to claim the Central Regional championship, earning an automatic qualification for the NCAA III National Championships for a ninth time in school history. The Norse posted a 10th place finish at the national finale.
