Nov. 17, 2007
For the second year in a row, junior Janet Dobyns (Iowa City, West) has earned All-American honors. Dobyns covered the 6 kilometer course on the campus of St. Olaf College, in a time of 21:28 and placed fifth from the field of 280 runners. Sarah Zerzan from Willamette University (OR) captured the individual title with a time of 20:54. The top-15 runners earn NCAA III All-American honors and the top-35 are recognized as All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
As a team, Luther placed 10th, posting a score of 325 points. The Central Region champions were the top performing team from this region at the national meet. Nebraska Wesleyan, that placed second at the regional, was 16th with 427 points. Wartburg College was 19th with 500, followed by The University of St. Thomas at 25th with 593 and St. Olaf was 30th with 690.
National meet scoring throws out individuals who are racing and are not a member of a national qualifying team. Because of this scoring method, Dobyns scored four points for the Norse. She was followed by junior Rachel Wobeter (Toledo, Iowa/South Tama) - 66/43pts - 22:41; freshman Erika Sell (Duluth, Minn./East) - 99/67pts - 22:59; junior Flannery Cerbin (La Crosse, Wis./Central) - 117/82pts - 23:05; and sophomore Katie Dolan (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) - 176/129pts - 23:27.
Freshman Annie McKay (Iowa City, Iowa/City) and junior Elise Bennett (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) completed associate head coach Yarrow Pasche's squad. McKay placed 181st (23:38) and Bennett was 196th (23:34).
