Two members of the Luther College women’s golf team have been named to the 2008-09 National Golf Coaches Association NCAA III All-American Scholar Team.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Krista Solie and Tess Spindler were two of the 67 student-athletes that earned this distinguished honor in Division III. Solie is a 2006 graduate of Mayo High School in Rochester, Minn. Spindler is a 2007 graduate of Crestwood High School in Cresco, Iowa.

Luther is coached by David Lester who will begin his fourth year as head coach during the 2009-10 campaign. Last year, Lester led his squad to a second place finish at the Iowa Conference Championships. This was Luther’s highest finish at the conference finale since 1994.

The women’s golf team has a long tradition of academic excellence. With the selection of Solie and Spindler, 21 student-athletes have been named to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team.
