Luther finishes 11th at midwest Classic

Carleton College hosted the 2009 Midwest Division III Classic at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn. Eighteen teams played on the 5,800 yard, par 72 course Sept. 19-20.

Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with a 628. The Gusties were followed by Wartburg College at 648 and the College of St. Benedict at 650. Luther finished in 11th place with a 722.

Emily Looft led the Norse finishing in a tie for 39th from the field of 99 players, shooting a 36-hole total of 171. Ten strokes behind Looft was Kaitlyn Traxler (t55 - 181). Traxler was followed by Andrea Pagh (t64 - 185), Krista Gulstrand (t70 - 188) and Krista Solie (79th - 194). Lynne McMullen (t90- 208) and Taylor Thoreson (94th - 213) played as individuals and did not count towards the team score.

This was the final tune-up before the 72-hole Iowa Conference Championships begin next weekend. The first 36-holes will be played at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls Sept. 25-26. The final 36-holes will be played at Oneota Golf and Country Club here in Decorah Oct. 2-3. Luther is hosting this year's league championship.
