Luther drops 1-0 decision to Simpson in semifinals of IIAC tournament

Regular season Iowa Conference champions Luther College, the top seed of the six-team conference tournament, was defeated by the #5 seed Simpson College, 1-0 this afternoon in the semifinals, played in the Rock Bowl at Loras College.

Simpson's leading scorer Nicole Dillenburg knocked in the game winner at 44:49 unassisted. The goal was the first the Norse had allowed in over 814 minutes of action, dating back to Oct. 7, when Luther and Loras finished in a 0-0 double overtime tie.

Dillenburg's goal was her ninth of the year and sixth game winner.

Luther out shot Simpson 13-7, but only had one shot on goal, compared to three by the Storm. Luther also had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The loss ends Luther's season with a mark of 10-7-2.

Simpson advances to the conference tournament championship match with a record of 11-7-0. Simpson will face the #2 seed, the University of Dubuque, that defeated #3 Loras College 7-6 on penalty kicks, after the two squads battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie in the other semifinal match. The championship match will be played at Loras College tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
