Luther Wins Conference Opener

Luther won its conference opener posting a 5-2 come-from-behind victory over Buena Vista University this afternoon in Storm Lake.
Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Emily Ironside and Ashley Meirick both scored two goals in a span of 16 minutes, leading the Norse offensive charge in the final 45 minutes of play. Ironside scored her seventh and eighth goals of the year at 50:30 and 65:56, while Meirick scored at 61:23 and 66:41. Meirick's goals were her third and fourth of the season.
After Buena Vista jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to goals at 8:39 and 17:40, Kelsey Balk pulled Luther to within one, finding the back of the Beavers net at 28:43.
Christina Soward, who is now 4-3-0, went the distance in the net and was credited with three saves.
The victory was Luther's second in a row and increased its overall record to 4-6-0. Buena Vista fell to 0-2 in the IIAC, 2-8 overall.
The Norse will continue the Iowa Conference schedule at home on Wednesday, Oct. 3, hosting the University of Dubuque (1-0-1, 8-1-2). Kick-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
