Norse Defeat Kohawks 2-1 - Meirick Scores Game Winner

Ashley Meirick broke a 1-1 tie in the 68th minute on a header into the Coe College net, scoring what proved to be the game winner, in Luther's 2-1 victory this afternoon here in Decorah. Meirick was assisted on the play by Kelsey Balk, who also was credited with an assist on Lisa Torgerson's fourth goal of the year. Torgerson gave the Norse an early 1-0 lead just 11 minutes into the contest. Coe's Kristen Carpenter tied the match on a direct kick at 53:44.

Hannah Wright made her second consecutive start in goal and stopped two of the three shots Coe placed on net the entire afternoon.

Luther on the other hand, out shot the Kohawks 23-6 and forced goalkeeper Erin Ridley to make seven saves on top of the two shots that got past her.

The win keeps Luther undefeated in Iowa Conference play, increasing its record to 3-0. The Norse have also won four in a row and are now 6-6-0 overall. Coe is yet to post a victory in league action falling to 0-3, 3-7-1 overall.

The Norse will travel to Wartburg College for an Iowa Conference match that will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
