Luther Defeats Simpson 2-1 in Double Overtime

Playing in a torrential downpour for the entire second half, plus 13 minutes of overtime, the Norse found a way to win in the adverse conditions, posting a 2-1 double overtime victory over Simpson here in Decorah.
The Norse took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to a Lisa Torgerson penalty kick at 27:06. In the second stanza, Simpson tied the match in the 72nd minute, on header off a rebound in the slop and mud in front of the Norse net. In the second overtime, Andrea Martinson headed the ball into the upper left corner of the Storm net, scoring the game winner in the 103rd minute. Martinson's game winner was set up by an Emily Ironside pass to Kelsey Balk, who placed the ball in the air for Martinson.
Norse goalkeeper Christina Soward had a solid evening stopping eight Storm shots on goal. The win also leveled Soward's season record to 5-5-0.
The win increased Luther's Iowa Conference record to 4-2. Simpson fell to 1-4-1 in league play. The victory also snapped a three match losing streak and raised Luther's overall record to 7-9-0. The Norse also secured a spot in the Iowa Conference Tournament.
