Nine Named NFCA Scholar Athletes

Nine members of the Luther College softball team have been presented 2006-07 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athlete awards.
To achieve this honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale, over the previous academic year (2006-07). This award is annually in October.
Luther’s nine NFCA Scholar Athletes are Christina Gaard ‘07 (Decorah, Iowa), Kim Hess ’09 (Paynesville, Minn.), Ellie Meyer ’09 (Edina, Minn.), Jackie Miller ’09 (Independence, Iowa), Erika Randall ’09 (Edina, Minn.), Megan Reutlinger ’09 (Decorah, Iowa), Kim Lambert ’10 (Coal Valley, Ill.), Anna Simonson ’10 (Galesville, Wis.) and Megan Weirather ’10 (Montrose, Iowa).
As a team, the Norse posted a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.271, that ranked 39th in the country.
During the 2006-07 campaign, Iowa Conference Coach of the Year Renae Hartl led Luther to a school record 35-7 and its first Iowa Conference championship since 1988. The Norse also captured their first Iowa Conference Tournament title and qualified for the NCAA III National Softball Tournament for a ninth time.
In the final NCAA III statistics, Luther led the nation for home runs per game (1.33) and slugging percentage (.0587), producing team records with 56 home runs, 72 doubles, 393 hits and a batting average of (.360).
