Norse Sweep Duhawks - Win Streak at Eight
April 16, 2008
Luther increased its win streak to eight in a row following a sweep of Loras College here in Decorah this afternoon. The Norse posted a 1-0 victory in game one and a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
In game one, Danielle Armbruster drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, with a double down the left field line. Armbruster drove in Tiffany Kruse who had reached base with a double to center field. Kim Hess, who was 3-for-3, had posted the only hits of the game prior to Kruse's and Armbruster's sixth inning heroics. Hess also tied the single season school record with her 19th stolen base of the year.
BreAnn VanDeer (8-2) went the distance in the circle en route to a three-hit shut out. VanDeer faced 27 batters, struck out five and walked three.
In game two, Tami Magner was a single shy of hitting for the cycle. Magner pounded her 12th home run of the season over the left field fence in the bottom of the first. In the third, she tripled to center field, and in the fifth, doubled off the fence in right-center field. Kruse followed Magner's double with a home run to same part of the ball park, her sixth of the year.
Kim Lambert (8-2) tossed an two-hit shutout, struck out 10 and walked just two, lowering her era 0.80.
The sweep increased Luther's Iowa Conference record to 9-3, 23-7 overall. Loras fell to 4-8 in the IIAC, 10-12 overall.
The Norse will be on the road tomorrow when they will play at UW-Stout starting at 3:00 p.m. This double header was scheduled after the Bethany Lutheran twin bill was cancelled. The Norse return home on Friday to host UW-Eau Claire for a double header that will begin at 4:00 p.m.
