Norse Drop Twin Bill to #25 Simpson - Both in Extra Innings

Luther dropped two hard-fought extra innings games this afternoon to #25 Simpson College in Indianola. It took 11 innings before Simpson posted a 3-2 victory in game one, and nine innings before it secured a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
Ashley Hoffman had three of Luther's six hits going 3-for-5 at the plate. Hoffman drove in a run in the top of the first with a single up the middle. Two innings later, Luther took a 2-0 lead, when Anna Simonson scored on a fielding error.
Simpson responded with a run in the third and sent the game into extra innings following a bases loaded RBI walk in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back doubles in the 11th secured the 3-2 victory.
In game two, Simpson hurler Calie Hohneke threw a nine inning shutout. Hohneke faced 34 batters, struck out 11 and walked four.
Luther's lone run was unearned in the top of the fourth, tying the contest at 1-1. Simpson posted the game winner in the bottom of the ninth on a fielding error that allowed Julie O'Neal to score from second base.
The two losses levels Luther's Iowa Conference record to 3-3, 15-7 overall. Simpson moved to 4-2 in the IIAC, 19-7 overall.
The Norse will travel to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse tomorrow. This double header will begin at 1:00 p.m.
