Three School Records Set at Falcon Invite

Three Luther school records were set at the two-day Falcon Invite hosted by UW-River Falls Nov. 30-Dec. 1 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. Nine teams participated in the non-scored meet that included the Norse, Gophers, University of North Dakota, University of South Dakota, Minnesota State-Mankato, UW-La Crosse, University of St. Thomas, College of St. Benedict and UW-Eau Claire.
The Norse kicked off the meet with a school record in the 200 freestyle relay. The Norse foursome of Elissa Schmidt, Valerie Hoops, Bethany Nicoll and Rachel Bruns posted a time of 1:40.29. The Norse placed sixth of 35 relay teams and broke the old mark of 1:41.50 set Feb. 15, 2007.
Bruns set an individual school record in the 100 freestyle. She placed third of 60 competitors, touching the wall in 53.56, breaking the old mark of 53.69 held by Schmidt set Feb. 17, 2007. She went on to place sixth of 81 swimmers in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.53.
Schmidt broke her own school record in the 200 freestyle placing 4th of 55 competitors with a time of 1:56.42.
Individuals who also posted top-10 finishes included Hoops in the 400 IM (9 of 32 - 4:56.70); Schmidt in the 100 freestyle (7 of 60 - 54.12); Katheryn Sundry in the 1,650 freestyle (8 of 28 - 18:47.46); and Kristin Trudell in the 200 butterfly (6 of 32 - 2:17.51).
