Luther Captures Title of Grinnell Invite

A first place finish in the final race of the two-day Grinnell Invitational, secured the team title for the Norse this afternoon. The foursome of Elissa Schmidt, Addison Choi, Amy Schneider and Rachel Bruns posted a winning time of (3:38.89) in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing just ahead of Carthage clocked at (3:39.43). Luther's time in this event was a new school record, breaking the old mark of (3:39.43) set Feb. 17, 2007.

Luther won the team title with 503 points, Carthage was eight points behind at 495 and Grinnell was third at 455. Eight teams participated in the event.

Schmidt also brought home the only individual first place finish during the second day of competition. Schmidt won the 200 freestyle (1:56.05) and was one of four Norse swimmers that advanced to the finals of this event. Schmidt's time was a new school record and Grinnell pool record. She broke the old Luther mark of (1:56.42) that she set Dec. 1, 2007. Schmidt also placed second in the 50 freestyle (25.44).

Katharyn Sundry and Schneider placed second and third respectively in the 1,650 freestyle. Sundry touched the wall in (19:04.74), while Schneider was clocked at (19:11.78).

Saturday Results

The Norse will wrap up the home schedule on Saturday, Jan. 26, when they will host Grinnell. This dual will begin at 1:00 p.m.
