Schmidt All-American in 200 Freestyle - 800 Freestyle Also Earns All-America Honors

Following the second day of competition of the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championshis Luther College is in 12th place with a team total of 60 points. The College of Wooster is hosting the three-day meet at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center on the campus of Miami University (OH) March 13-15.
Four Norse earned All-America honors during today's competition by placing in the top-eight of the 200 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay..
Elissa Schmidt (Claremont, Minn./Owatonna) posted the fourth fastest time in today's preliminary heats of the 200 freestyle clocked at 1:52.15. She placed fourth in the championship heat with a time of 1:51.81. Kendra Stern (Amherst) won the individual title clocked at 1:47.19. Thirty-eight qualifiers participated in today's preliminary round.
With this honor, Schmidt became the first Norse swimmer to earn All-America honors since Kelly Mc Grew secured her third and final All-America honor in the breaststroke in 1993.
In the final event of the evening, Schmidt, Addison Choi (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), Valerie Hoops (Freeport, Ill.), and Amy Schneider (East Dubuque, Ill./Wahlert), placed eighth in the 800 freestyle relay posting a time of 7:42.48. Fifteen teams participated in this event.
During today's preliminary round, the foursome of Schneider, Hoops, Choi and Rachel Bruns (Albany, Minn.) raced in the 200 medley relay. The Norse swam this race as a bonus event and placed 20th (1:56.19) from the field of 21.
