Luther Jumps Out to 2-0 Start
Sept. 1, 2007
Thanks to the combination of three season veterans and four freshman in the lineup, the women's tennis team posted two victories at home in the opening weekend of competition. The Norse defeated Augustana (IL) 9-0 and then posted an 8-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire in the nightcap.
The Norse did not lose a set in the Augustana victory, as freshman Alana Humpal at #2 (7-5, 6-0), Brynne Zinnecker at #4 (6-1, 6-2) and Mary Fairfield at #5 (6-2, 6-1), all posted their first collegiate victories.
In the Eau Claire match, Molly Beyer at #1 (6-2, 2-6, 10-6) and Humpal at #2 (6-3, 3-6, 11-9) both won hard fought three set matches. Zinnecker was the only singles player to drop a point, losing to Brenna McCormick (6-4, 6-3).
The Norse will return to action on Sept. 8, when half of the team will be at home against Cornell and Grinnell. The other half will travel to Dubuque to play Clarke and Dubuque.
